Reinhard Heydrich was born on March 7, 1904 in Halle, Germany. Throughout his life, he was known to have a harsh personality, following him through the war and everything he did.
When he was 14, he Joined a “Free Corps” youth group where he trained and learned terrorist tactics. At age 18, in the early years of World war II, he joined the German Navy and became the first lieutenant. His position as chief of the German secret police had him organize mass executions in occupied countries during the Nazi regime. Due to his mass killings, he became known as “The Blond Beast” and later became known as “The Hangman.” His Nickname “The Hangman” specifically came from his efforts to kill Jews alongside Hitler by poison gas, starvation, disease, shootings or burnings when he worked at concentration camps. In 1931, he was discharged from the German Navy and assigned to create the intelligence-gathering organization that later became known as the Sicherheitsdienst, or SS. Under Heydrich’s control, the organization grew greatly. Heydrich also assisted Hitler in the concentration camps and helped destroy many nations. This was called the “Final Solution.” Along with his harsh personality, he was also an arrogant person. He was feared rather than liked by all he encountered but still had unlimited power. Even after his death on June 4, 1942 in Lidice, Czech Republic his campaign against Jews was continued by other Nazi officials. |
